Would you drop 75 bucks on a literal bag of shyt?

There's a certain farm in California which is the home of the world's happiest goats.

They can roam the large property freely. They’re fed only the best organic fruits and vegetables. They can snack upon wild sage and eucalyptus. And they're even treated to music to help them relax.

Why?

So that their owner can collect their droppings and put it into compost. Compost that he then sells in tiny little bags for $75 a pop.

Yes, California has gone off the deep end.

(Of course, that happened like 60 years ago... So maybe it's better to say it's gone off the deeper end.)

And apparently it's now the craze over there to buy only the finest artisanal compost to grow your vegetables with.

Now, I'm not gonna get into whether there's a big difference in the taste of food grown with regular compost vs. luxury goat compost. (There ain't.)

But this story does demonstrate an important business principle:

Whatever you're selling, there's always going to be a small percentage of people who will be willing to pay more for a "premium" version.

Most people are happy with regular compost. But a small percentage will pay 10 times more to ensure their plants are getting the best possible nutrition that money can buy.

What does that mean for you and your pet business?

Well, if you're selling dog grooming, it means that some of your customers would probably be willing to drop much more money on luxury “spa treatments” for their dogs. With not only dog grooming, but also dog massages, mud treatments, facials, and so on.

Naturally, it's up to you whether you offer such services. But I guarantee there’s a small demand there.

And as for how to tell your customers about these premium goods and services?

I can’t think of a better way than by email.

Because then not only can you tell them about your premium offering... But you can also gradually build their desire for it, their belief in its benefits, and their trust in you. Piece by piece. Email by email. All of which is essential when selling anything for top dollar.
