Pet business advice from a Hollywood hitman
Let me set the scene for you:
Jamie Foxx is an LA cab driver. And Tom Cruise is his fare for the evening – a ruthless hitman who kidnaps Foxx and forces him to drive him between his targets.
And although Collateral has many great set pieces, my favourite scene of the film is actually a quiet conversation the two have – the hitman’s rant after he finds out his cab driver has, for years, been dreaming of starting his own limousine business someday:
"Someday?
Someday my dream will come? One night you will wake up and discover it never happened. It's all turned around on you. It never will. Suddenly you are old. Didn't happen, and it never will, because you were never going to do it anyway. You'll push it into memory and then zone out in your BarcaLounger, being hypnotized by daytime TV for the rest of your life... All it ever took was a down payment on a Lincoln town car… What are you still doing driving a cab?"
Every time I see that scene, it hits me hard. And reminds me I should be actually doing the things I wanna do, instead of just thinking “someday”.
Anyway, in this email I wanted to talk about someone in the pet industry who encapsulates that spirit maybe more than any other:
Janie Budnick.
If you don’t already know Janie, she’s a woman with spiked platinum-blonde hair, and a guru brand where she helps pet business owners achieve their goals.
I may be wrong, but I believe she’s recently hit seven figures in revenue (or is nearly there).
And what’s most impressive is she’s got to that titanic number in less than 4 years. It was only March 2021 when she began her PetBiz University.
How did she do it?
I believe a big part of it is that she’s always building “the next thing” for her followers.
For starters, Janie has a podcast, an email list, and several facebook groups.
Not only that, but her PetBiz University has three (count ‘em, three) tiers of education, each more prestigious than the last – ‘The Vault’, ‘PetBizMBA’, and ‘Sanctum’.
She also has a software business – PetBizCRM – bringing in another chunk of change.
Janie and her followers even have their own language. What is “WOOT”? I have no idea. But they know. And that makes me wanna know.
And again, I’d like to remind you – she’s built all this in just 4 short years.
Janie understands the way to make it big is to constantly stack more and more offerings... Giving her people more and more stuff to get on the back end. Compare that to most business owners – who have only 1 product or service and stick with it forever. Who focus purely on bringing more people in the door. Who wonder why they’re struggling.
Food for thought in your own pet business?
Anyway, Janie Budnick and Tom Cruise have inspired me. I’ve been giving my partners too much of energy lately, and so I’ve decided to focus on expanding my own thing.
That means I’ll soon be coming out with my first course…Plus, I’m currently setting up my own podcast.
I’ll keep you posted on that stuff. But for now, if your pet business isn’t going as well as you want, then you can sign up for my newsletter by clicking the button below:
